What is a veterinary dentist?

An AVDC diplomate is a veterinary dental specialist. After completing rigorous training programs, veterinary dentists must also pass certifying examinations testing their knowledge of veterinary and human dentistry and oral surgery research as well as their hands-on surgical and technical skills in endodontics, periodontology, prosthodontics, orthodontics, maxillofacial trauma management and oral medicine and surgery. There are currently fewer than 180 board certified veterinary dentists working in the US.
